About

This website is a personal project. I started it because of two articles.

  1. ProtonMail deletes 'we don't log your IP' boast from website after French climate activist reportedly arrested • The Register
  2. Israeli couple who spied for Iran made ample use of digital applications | intelNews.org

The first article sent me down the metadata rabbit hole. The results are not good. Effectively, email is unusable if one wants to avoid the authorities. This is all due to the metadata problem. The authorities will just put an email provider out of business if it does not comply with their requests. The metadata available to authorities is probably more damning than the actual emails.

If you don't care about the authorities, then using a password protected Zip file on any email provider would work. The remaining email issue would be the use of aliases in order to control spam and other unwanted emails.

The second article about the Israeli couple shows how they avoided the authorities. Although, they eventually got caught. They used an anonymous messaging app (Zangi.com) for communication. I thought that was interesting.

The next issue concerns my dislike of WordPress. It's too bloated and intolerably slow. So after some snooping around I stumbled into WonderCMS. This is a PHP system with a flatfile storage system. I'm using WonderCMS here.

My name is Matt. I am an American living in Switzerland. I am a retired insurance mathematician.

WonderCMS with "Sky" theme. It's a bit clunky but pretty fast.
